Franz Wilhelm Ferling

48 Studies, Op. 31

Franz Wilhelm Ferling’s 48 Studies, Op. 31, written for the oboe in 1837: a slow study and a fast one in every major and minor key. The standard book for oboe and, in Marcel Mule’s reading, for saxophone.

Cut for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone: each edition moves every study into that instrument’s range and clef.

Engraved like a printed part

Each study is transposed and re-clefed into the instrument's range and engraved at a 7.5 mm staff with a printer's margins, one study to a page or a spread, never a turn inside a study.
