Using Practice.farm for alto trombone

There is a lack of practice materials designed specifically for the alto trombone. Practice.farm addresses this by allowing you to play any exercise configured for the range and clef of the alto trombone.

Setting up your range

  1. Click Settings, then Range
  2. Set the low limit to A2 - This is the lowest non-pedal note playable on the alto trombone
  3. Set the high limit to Eb5 (or higher or lower depending on your goals)

Choosing Your Range Focus

At the bottom of the dialog, you'll see "When multiple transpositions are in range, select:" with three options:

  • The Lowest One: To target low register. This means that for each exercise, the lowest note will be A2, focusing on the lowest range of the alto trombone.
  • The Highest One: To target high register development
  • Random Selection: For comprehensive training across all registers

Configuring Alto Clef

  1. Click "Clef" in the settings dialog
  2. Enable alto clef, disabling all the others
  3. This ensures your exercises will display in alto clef

Practice Options

Now you're ready to practice. Choose anything from the Practice.farm library:

  • Lyrical studies from Bordogni
  • Technical exercises from Arban
  • Mozart Horn concertos
  • Or whatever strikes your fancy

All exercises will automatically adapt to your alto trombone's range and display in alto clef, giving you access to a much wider variety of practice material than traditional alto trombone methods provide.
